How to Store Kindling Wood
Keeping kindling dry between delivery and use, so it lights as well as the day it arrived.
The basic rule
Kindling that started dry can still pick up moisture from damp ground, rain, or a humid shed — storage is just as important as how the wood was dried in the first place.
Where to keep it
A dry shed, garage, or covered log store is ideal. If you're storing bags outdoors, keep them raised off the ground (a pallet or shelf works well) and under a waterproof cover with some airflow — a fully sealed plastic cover can trap condensation just as effectively as it keeps rain out.
If a bag gets wet
Don't write it off. Spread the pieces out somewhere warm and ventilated and give them a few days to dry before use — surface-wet kindling that hasn't been soaked through will usually recover fully.
